Rajya Sabha adjourned over Justice Katju allegations

News Delhi, July 21 (IBNS): Both houses of Parliament witnessed noisy scenes over the allegation of former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju about involvement of top judiciary in compromising corruption. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for ten minutes over it.

Justice Markandey Katju has sparked a fresh row over judicial corruption alleging that an additional judge of the Madras High Court was favoured by an acting chief justice for his elevation while several Chief Justices of India also allowed him to continue despite probes against him establishing the graft charges.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha  will have a short discussion on the issue of Gaza violence on Monday in which over 430 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in the Israeli offensive.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had finally agreed to hold a discussion last week following demands of the Oppositions.

Earlier on Wednesday, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj had declined any discussion on the international crisis saying India shares diplomatic ties with both Israel and Palestine.

Swaraj had said that any discourteous reference to any friendly country could impact India’s relations with them.
