Rajinikanth to attend 'charismatic leader' Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony

Chennai, May 28 (IBNS): South Indian superstar Rajinikanth has confirmed that he will be attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, media reports said.

Rajinikanth, who has already announced that he will be joining politics, also called Modi a "charismatic leader".

"This victory (Lok Sabha poll victory) is a victory for Modi. He is a charismatic leader. In India, after Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi, Modi is now a charismatic leader," Rajinikanth has been quoted by NDTV.

Modi, who was appointed as the Prime Minister by President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday, will take oath on Thursday.

The BJP swept the polls by winning 303 seats. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 353 seats.

Modi won from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi by close to five lakh votes.

In December last year, Rajinikanth had praised Modi and considered the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as "not dangerous".

"People will decide if BJP is a dangerous party," he had said. "When 10 persons go against one person, who is stronger? Those 10, or the person they are aligning against. If 10 persons declare a war against one man, who is stronger."

Speaking about Rahul Gandhi's firm decision to step down as the Congress president, Rajinikanth said as quoted by NDTV, "He (Rahul Gandhi) should not resign. He should prove he can do it. In democracy the opposition should also be strong."

After the dismal performance of the Congress, which managed to win 52 seats, party chief Gandhi has offered to resign. Though the Congress Working Committee (CWC) members rejected his offer, Gandhi stood firm in resigning.
