Rajasthan politics: Ashok Gehlot camp 'gheraoes' Raj Bhawan, demands floor test

| @indiablooms | Jul 24, 2020, at 11:46 pm

Jaipur/UNI: Rajasthan MLAs, supporting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, here on Wednesday sat on a protest inside the Raj Bhawan premises, demanding an Assembly session urgently, so that Mr Gehlot can prove the majority at the Floor of the House.

The MLAs were accompanied by the Chief Minister to the Raj Bhawan from Fairmount Hotel, where they have been staying, since weeks.

In pictures that emerged on social media, the MLAs can be seen sitting in the lawn of Governor Kalraj Mishra's office and wearing mask and maintaining social distancing as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

Several MLAs, in video-clips, can be heard raising slogans like "Rajyapal Mahodya House Bulao" (Honourable Governor, save the House).

The Governor came outside after some time and met the agitating Legislators at the lawn. However, it was yet to be unknown as to what transpired between them.

But as per the latest reports, the MLAs are still inside the premises, hinting that their meeting with the Governor remained inconclusive.

Earlier, Gehlot held a Congress Legislative Party meeting inside the Fairmount hotel. Soon after the meeting, all MLAs, along with the Chief Minister, left for the Governor's House in a conclave of buses and cars, amid tight security.

Just hours before, Gehlot has held a press conference, where he urged the Governor to call the Assembly session urgently.

"The Floor Test is needed. Even the Opposition and the judiciary want it. Due to this political turmoil, people of the state are suffering," Gehlot told reporters here.
