Mumbai/IBNS: Heavy rain battered Mumbai and paralysed normal lives as monsoon arrived in Maharashtra 12 days early, media reports said.

Train and flight services have been disrupted while streets are flooded with water restricting people from exercising their normal flow of work.

Several low-lying areas of Kurla, Sion, Dadar and Parel are waterlogged.

Airline SpiceJet has issued an update, "Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status.."

Air India posted on X, Rain and thunderstorms are impacting flight operations in Mumbai. To ensure a smooth travel experience, we encourage our passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport."

Train services, which are the heartline of Mumbai's transport, have been delayed due to waterlogging on railway tracks.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC has urged residents to avoid venturing out of home unless necessary.

The state has appealed to people to stay alert.

The southwest monsoon's arrival in Maharashtra on Sunday marked its earlier onset in 35 years.

The monsoon also arrived early in Kerala where its onset took place last Saturday.
