Rahul, Sonia, Manmohan meet envoys of G-20 & neighbouring countries

Sources said that during the interaction with the foreign envoys, also attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Anand Sharma, the Congress president also raised India’s concerns on cross-border terrorism aided and abetted by Pakistan.

Sources said that the Congress leaders outlined the party’s foreign policy stance during the meeting.

In a tweet after the meeting, Rahul said,’’Today I met with diplomats of the G-20 nations and some neighbouring countries. We discussed a wide range of issues & are united in our fight against the scourge of terrorism. I enjoyed the exchange of perspectives and ideas and look forward to continuing our dialogue.’’

Pakistan envoy was not part of the meeting, which was attended by envoys from the US, Argentina, Italy, France, China, japan, Germany, Canada, Republic of Korea, Romania, Brunei, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Russia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka .

The meeting, which was to be held earlier, was called off following the terror attack in Pulwama on February 14 in which 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives.

The interaction comes a week after the Indian air force conducted air strikes on terrorist camps in Balakot in Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack.
