Rahul Gandhi tenders 'unconditional apology' for attributing chowkidar remarks to Supreme Court

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for wrongfully attributing his statement to it.

In a fresh affidavit, Gandhi stated that he is apologising for attributing his "Chowkidar Chor hai" remark to the court and further requested dropping of contempt proceedings against him.

The apex court will hear the matter on May 10, along with the review petitions filed against the Rafale judgment.

Earlier it had rejected the Congress chief's plea to close the criminal contempt petition when he had averred that petitioner Meenakshi Lekhi was seeking political mileage under the pretext of contempt petition.

During a media interaction in Amethi last month, the Congress president had claimed that the apex court's order has made it 'clear' that 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' (Prime Minister is thief) in its Rafale order.

Challenging this statement, Ms Lekhi, the BJP Parliamentarian, had filed a plea before the apex court and sought criminal contempt against Mr Gandhi for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister.
