New Delhi, Feb 13 (IBNS): Opposition leaders from different political parties met at Sharad Pawar's house on Wednesday night to discuss  pre-poll alliances and a Common Minimum Programme to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following the meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi indicated that both the agenda have been discussed and are in progress, media reports said.

"We agreed to start a conversation about a common minimum programme and we have a commitment that we are all going to work together to defeat BJP," Mr Gandhi was quoted as saying by NDTV after the meet.

The meet comes after a  day-long show of strength by opposition parties at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Besides Gandhi, the meeting was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said he party would fight together with the Congress and the Left at the national level against the BJP.

"We will fight together with the Congress and the Left at the national level, let us all united together against the Modi government," said Mamata, whose party ended three-and-a-half decades of Left rule in West Bengal.

Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and A. Raja visited the venue of the Save Democracy rally at Jantar Mantar.

The Opposition rally was hosted by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. However, when Mamata reached the venue after fulfilling her commitments at Parliament, the two had left.

Speaking at the rally, Mamata said: "Come let us form a United India. I am not scared of anyone...am used to fighting."

"The condition in our country is worse than emergency," she said.
