Mandasaur, Madhya Pradesh, June 08 (IBNS) : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has headed for Mandasaur in Madhya Pradesh where during a farmers' protest five were killed in police firing two days ago, triggering a tensions and prompting imposition of curfew.

"Will be in #Mandsaur tomorrow to meet the families of farmers who lost their lives in the police firing yesterday," the Office of Rahul Gandhi had tweeted last evening.

Reports said he left for Mandsaur which is 325 km from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.

"In BJP's new India those who provide us with food got bullets when they demanded their due," said Gandhi, slamming the ruling party whose government is in power in Madhya Pradesh.

A day after five people were killed in  firing on Tuesday, the  farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur intensified on Wednesda  as agitators set on fire about ten vehicles, prompting authorities to clamp curfew in the district, reports said.

Mobile internet services were  suspended in Mandasaur, Rattam and Neemuch districts since morning to check spread of rumours.

The protesting farmers also got into a scuffle with the District Collector and the Superintendent of police while demanding presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Rahul Gandhi had tweeted that the state Government is "at war" with the farmers.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the firing. The protest rally by farmers turned violent on Tuesday when shots were fired.
