Malda/IBNS/UNI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday began his ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' from the West Bengal bordering district of Malda, a day after his car was vandalised while crossing the border from Bihar into this state on Wednesday afternoon, party sources said.

Gandhi, who began his yatra from the northeast state of Manipur on Jan 14, already covered Assam and almost completed the north Bengal districts, which started on Jan 24.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) state committee member Shatarup Ghosh joined Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra's 19th day at Malda, a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described the CPI(M) as 'no. 1 dalal' (broker) of the BJP.

During the Yatra, Gandhi, who was in an open-hood red vehicle alongside state unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, was greeted by thousands of people who stood along the roads to wave hands at the Congress leader.

After crossing Malda, Gandhi is expected to address the people at Raghunathganj in Murshidabad in the afternoon.

Congress has considerable followers in both Malda and Murshidabad districts of North Bengal.

Sources said thousands of CPI (M) workers and supporters joined the Congress leader in the Yatra Thursday.

The CPI(M) activists were seen carrying high up on the head the party’s red flags and shouting slogans for Gandhi.
