Tennis player Radhika Yadav, who was shot dead by her father at her home in Haryana's Gurugram, wanted to be a social media influencer like popular YouTuber Elvish Yadav.

Yadav reportedly belonged to her village.

According to ACP Yashwant, Radhika’s father, Deepak Yadav, spent over Rs 2.5 crore on her tennis training, India Today reported.

According to the news channel's report, Radhika's father was allegedly driven by mental stress and societal pressure to shoot his daughter.

Sources told India Today Radhika had assured her father that she wouldn’t let their efforts go in vain.

“Papa, I have enough content in my mind. I’ve played enough. I will now earn money,” she had told him after an injury sidelined her from tennis.

Father fires five bullets at daughter

The father, Deepak Yadav, fired five bullets at his daughter, and three hit her.

The police have arrested him, and an investigation is underway.

According to reports, the father had an altercation with Radhika over a video reel she had shot for Instagram.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the first floor of the Yadav family's residence, located in Sector 57 of Gurugram. Radhika's father, who was allegedly angered by the post, took out his licensed revolver and opened fire at her, HT reported.

The police received a call that a woman, with bullet injuries, had been brought dead to the hospital.

The cops then went to her house, where she used to run a tennis academy.

Deepak confessed to killing his daughter during the preliminary investigation. The complaint was filed by the accused's brother, and it was revealed that Deepak was upset with his daughter for running a tennis academy.

The police have seized the gun used by her father.

Born on March 23, 2000, Radhika was an active player on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit. The 25-year-old had 10 points on the international and was ranked 113.

Over the years, she has competed in various domestic and international tennis events. She made a name for herself in age-group tennis.
