Putin arrives in India, PM Modi welcomes

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IBNS) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin and said his visit to the Asian nation is a step in the direction of taking the relationship between the two countries to the next level.

In a series of tweets, Modi said: "Delighted to welcome President Putin to India. Looking forward to a productive visit that will take India-Russia ties to newer heights."

"The bond between the people of Russia & India is very strong. Our nations have stood by each other through thick and thin," he said.

Modi said: "Times have changed, our friendship has not. Now, we want to take this relation to the next level & this visit is a step in that direction."

Welcoming Putin, he also tweeted in Russian.

Putin reached India on Wednesday  to attend the 15th Annual India-Russia Summit.
