Srinagar, Jun 7 (UNI) Four militants reportedly belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Thursday evening in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, a police spokesperson said on Friday.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service remained suspended in the district as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

He said a CASO was launched at Panjran Lassipora in Pulwama on Thursday evening by troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF following information about the presence of militants. All the exit points were sealed and house to house searches were launched, he said adding when the troops reached a particular house, militants opened fire with automatic weapons.

Spokesperson said security forces also retaliated killing a militant last night. However, the operation was stopped due to darkness. With the first light this morning all out operation was launched against the holed up militants, he said adding three more militants were killed.

The bodies of all the four militants, reportedly affiliated with JeM, have been recovered and the operation is over, he said adding troops are leaving the area.

Locals alleged that security forces blasted the house from where the militants were firing.

Additional security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstration.
