New Delhi, Sep 23 (IBNS): Hundreds of activists from Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Bhartiya Kisan Union are expected to converge at a Tughlaq Road bungalow for a “mayapanchayat” or meeting to discuss their campaign demanding a memorial in the name of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, reports said.

Former civil aviation minister, Singh was recently forced to vacate the 12, Tughlaq Road bungalow where he stayed in for years. He had to vacate the property after losing the general election in May this year.

He demanded that the property be turned into a memorial for his father former Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police dubbed the gathering as “illegal” and took extra precautions to prevent any unwarranted protests in the high-security zone. Commuters were diverted as the entire Tughlaq Road was completely barricaded with the deployment of riot police in the area, sources said.

The Delhi Metro also shut down its station near Tughlaq Road which connects north Delhi and Gurgaon.
