Lucknow/UNI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Yogi Adityanath government over the alleged rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district.

In a series of tweets, Vadra said that the crime against children increased under the BJP regime in UP.

"Will such incident have any impact on the government. A nine-year-old girl was raped and she died during treatment. How long such things will continue," the Congress leader questioned.

The girl was raped in Unnao on Monday, and when she protested, the accused tried her to strangulate. She was rushed to a a hospital in Kanpur, where she died during treatment on Tuesday, police said.

The girl was a fifth standard student.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Veer said that investigation was underway to nab the culprit.
