President, PM condole loss of lives in Uttarakhand rains

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the loss of lives due to heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand.

In a message to Dr. Aziz Qureshi, Governor of Uttarakhand, the President has said “I am deeply saddened to learn about the heavy rains leading to landslides in certain areas of Uttarakhand, which have caused loss of lives, injuries and damage to property. I understand rescue and relief operations are currently underway."

"I am sure that the State Government and other authorities are making all efforts to bring relief to those affected and also provide assistance to the people who have incurred losses," he said.

Mukherjee said: "Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray to the Almighty to give the families who have lost their dear ones, the strength to bear the irreparable loss”. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand and extended his condolences to families of the deceased.

In the past 24 hours, at least 27 people have been killed  in separate incidents of landslide, cloudburst and flooding  in different parts of Uttarakhand, reports said on Saturday. 

Heavy rains have lashed several parts in Uttarakhand.

According to reports, heavy rains triggered a landslide in Dehradun's Rajpur area which left at least seven people dead on Saturday.
