Portion of old building collapses in Kolkata, rescue ops underway

Kolkata, Jun 9 (IBNS): A major portion of an old two-storey building collapsed at Narkeldanga North Road area under Maniktala Police Station limits in north Kolkata on Friday evening, leaving at least one person injured, reports said.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 5 pm.

Fire and emergency services officials, local police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel rushed to the scene and rescue operation is currently underway.

"Three fire tenders are there at the scene and our rescue operation is still going on," an official of state fire and emergency services department told IBNS.

"One senior man, who was trapped under the wreckage, has been rescued alive and sent to NRS Medical College and Hospital for treatment," the official added. "Our search operation is still on to ensure that there's no more person trapped inside the building."

However, exact reason behind the building collapse has not been known yet.
