Political leaders slams Mohan Bhagwat for his 'Hindutva' remark

New Delhi, Aug 11 (IBNS): Political leaders, including those from the Congress, on Monday slammed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for his 'Hindutva'remark.

Bhagwat stirred a controversy by saying India is a Hindu state and 'citizens of Hindustan should be known as Hindus'.

Reacting to Bhagwat's remark, Congress leader Manish Tewari tweeted :"RSS Sarsanghchalak may peruse Article one of India's Constitution which says India that is Bharat shall be a Union of states not Hindustan?"

Senior CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury on Monday said the RSS should clarify whether they 'respect the Indian Constitution or not'.

Speaking on the issue, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati told reporters: "The RSS chief does not have any proper knowledge of our Constitution. He should first learn about it and then comment."

Creating a controversy, Bhagwat on Sunday said at a function in Cuttcuk: " The entire world recognizes Indians as Hindus. So  India is a Hindu state.  If people of England are called English, those of Germany are Germans and USA are Americans then all those who live in Hindustan are known as Hindus."

The RSS is the ideological patron of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
