Political leaders mourn RR Patil's death

New Delhi/Mumbai, Feb 16 (IBNS): Top leaders of the country, including Primer Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday mourned the death of former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader RR Patil.

"My thoughts are with Shri RR Patil`s family. Am saddened to know of his demise, which leaves a void in Maharashtra politics," the Prime Minister said.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also mourned the death of the leader.

The Congress quoting Gandhi tweeted: "My deepest condolences on the passing away of Shri R. R Patilji."

"Shri RR Patil will be remembered as a grassroots leader who served people of Maharashtra," he said.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said: "My condolences on the sudden and sad demise of Shri R.R. Patil, a politician par excellence. May the departed soul rest in peace."

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted: "R R Patil was a grass root worker, his sad demise is my personal & huge loss for Maharashtra politics. My deepest condolences to his family."

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted: "State funeral would be accorded to Shri R R Patil & a day long mourning would be observed tomorrow."

Rajasthan CM posted: "Deeply saddened by the news of demise of Sh. R.R. Patil ji. May God give strength to the bereaved family & peace to the departed soul."

Madhya Pradesh CM ShivrajSingh Chouhan said: "Saddened by the news of sudden demise of Shri Raosaheb R. Patil. My deep condolences to his family."

According to reports, he was suffering from advance stage of Oral Cancer.

He was on ventilator support in Lilavati Hospital of Mumbai.

Patil became Home Minister of Maharashtra for the second time after the 2009 Maharashtra assembly election victory of the Congress-NCP alliance.

He was also the former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
