Poachers kill rhino in Orang national park

Guwahati, Dec 31 (BNS) : Poachers killed a horned rhinoceros in Orang national park in Assam.

With the latest incident, a total of 35 rhinos have been poached in the state this year.

According to reports, poachers killed a pregnant female rhino near Belsiri forest camp in the national park and managed to flee with horn.

A home guard was killed during an encounter with Poachers.

The home guard was trying protect the big animal from poachers.

"Sushil Sheel, a home guard killed during gun battle with poachers while he was tried protect the big animal, " a top forest official said.

"Forest guards recovered a dehorned bullet injuries female rhino at a paddy field near the National Park," the official said.

Forest guards recovered 13 empty bullets of 303 rifle from the area.

In this year, poachers have killed 35 rhinos in Kaziranga, Manas, Pobitora and Orang national park in the state.

Assam forest minister Rockybul Hussain announced that the state government took all probable steps to protect wild animals.

In this year, the state government had launched unmanned aerial surveillance in Kaziranga national park, but the process was totally failed.
