PM Modi's presence in Bengal Global Business Summit uncertain: Reports

| @indiablooms | Apr 19, 2022, at 07:04 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence at the inauguration of the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit on Wednesday is uncertain, various media reports said.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Delhi had invited the Prime Minister for the summit, which is organised every year to attract investments in the state battling with job crisis in the private sector for decades.

As per Press Information Bureau (PIB)'s official tour information, the Prime Minister will be in his home state Gujarat, where an election is due later this year, from Apr 18-20.

Commenting on the uncertainty, Dilip Ghosh, the vice president of Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said, "Our Chief Minister had asked him (Narendra Modi) to come orally during her Delhi visit. After that, no official invitation was sent to the Prime Minister."

Jay Prakash Majumdar, the leader of Banerjee's TMC, told a local news channel, "We are well aware of the Prime Minister's negligence when it comes to West Bengal. He goes everywhere but not West Bengal."

The summit, which is likely to see the presence of big industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani this year, is being held after a gap of two years owing to Covid-19 pandemic.
