PM Modi in Bengal on a two-day visit, expected to slam Mamata govt ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Kolkata/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to West Bengal starting from Friday, in the backdrop of the Sandeshkhali case.

Modi will inaugurate multiple government projects on March 1 and 2.

He will address a public rally in Arambagh on Friday and is scheduled to hold another one in Krishnanagar on Saturday.

His visit to West Bengal comes amid massive criticism of Trinamool Congress government over the Sandeshkhali case where several women accused now arrested and suspended local ruling party leader Sheikh Shahjahan of land grabbing and sexual abuse.

Modi will aim to bolster the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s campaigns against the TMC government in Arambagh and Krishnanagar, which were won by the state's ruling party in 2019.

While TMC's Aparupa Poddar won from Arambagh, firebrand expelled parliamentarian Mahua Moitra won from Krishnanagar.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah has already set a target of 35 seats for the BJP.

In 2019, the BJP won 18 of 42 seats giving a massive jolt to the TMC, which could manage to bag 22 seats.

However, BJP's dream to come to power in West Bengal for the inaugural time was dashed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC's spectacular performance of winning over 200 seats.
