PM Modi greets Amitabh Bachchan on his birthday

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted screen icon Amitabh Bachchan on his birthday.

"Happy birthday @SrBachchan! India is proud of his cinematic brilliance & support to many social causes. I pray for his long & healthy life," the Prime Minister's tweet read.

Bachchan, the quintessential 'angry young man' of Indian cinema, turned 75 today.

He was born in 1942 to Teji Bachchan and renowned poet Harivansh Rai.

He started his cinematic career as a narrator in Mrinal Sen's Bhuvan Shome, after he was reportedly rejected by the All India Radio as his voice was deemed unfavourable for the medium.

Though his first film failed to earn him recognition, the Big B struck a chord with the audience with his next, Anand,(1971).

Bachchan was awarded the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor for his role.

A slow start to his career gave away to a massive fan following as he matured into a fine actor and was eventually seen as the best to have donned the hat.

Bachchan is also one of the most recognisable people from India, alongside fellow actor Shah Rukh Khan.

He's also lend his rich baritone for voice overs and the occasional playback number.

Amitabh Bachchan is a Padma awardee, having received  the  Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

Apart from films, he is also known for his several social campaigns.
