Plea seeking judicial probe into Ram Navami-Hanuman Jayanti clashes dismissed

New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking judicial inquiry into alleged communal violence during Ram Navami- Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, noting there was no merit in the plea.

A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao dismissed the petition filed by lawyer-cum-petitioner Vishal Tiwari.

"There is no merit in the petition. Sorry. You want a former judge to inquire. Nobody is sitting empty. Dismiss," the bench said, refusing to entertain the plea.

Tiwari sought direction for judicial inquiry by a retired judge or by a former Chief Justice into the alleged communal violence across several states and even in the national capital.

"What kind of prayers is this, Mr Counsel. We are extremely sorry, we dismiss your plea," the bench said as Tiwari argued that one-sided investigations were underway and the apex court should direct a detailed investigation.
