Parts of Srinagar shut after rumours about Malik’s health

Srinagar, Apr 22 (UNI): Business and other activities came to halt in parts of civil lines, Srinagar, after rumours about Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yaseen Malil’s health condition spread on Monday evening.

Shops and business establishments were closed and traffic went off the roads in Maisuma, stronghold of Malik, Gaw Kadal, Madeena Chowk, Haji Masjid, Red Cross road and parts of Budshah Chowk after announcements were made from mosques through public address system that the condition of Malik, who is reportedly on hunger strike after his arrest by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and shifted to Delhi last week. Malik has been admitted to RML hospital Delhi.

Additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed to prevent any demonstration. Traffic was diverted through other routes due to tense situation.

However, situation in nearby Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, Gantaghar and Amira Kadal was normal.
