Kolkata, Dec 10 (IBNS): Nearly four years after Suzette Jordan was gang-raped inside a car by some youths who befriended her in a night joint in 2012, a sessions court in Kolkata on Thursday convinced three accused- Nasir Khan, Ruman Khan and Sumit Bajaj- who were arrested earlier.

Suzette Jordan was allegedly  gangraped at gunpoint inside the moving car after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street area in Kolkata on the Feb 5-6 night in 2012.

The Mamata Banerjee government first called it a fabricated incident though a woman police official later cracked the case and several were arrested even as two main accused managed to escape.

A lady IPS officer of Kolkata Police, Damayanti Sen, who had cracked the case and said a rape indeed took place, was later removed from her position as the joint commissioner of police (crime) triggering more controversy over the incident.

On June 19 in 2013, Suzette, the mother of two, revealed her identity to the world and marched on the streets of Kolkata to protest against a series of rapes and murders in the state.

The 40-year-old rape-survivor died at a hospital in Kolkata on Mar 13 this year.

In an in-camera session at the Bankshall Court in Kolkata, the three arrested were found guilty under several IPC sections on Thursday and judge Sanjib Bhattacharya said the quantum of punishment will be announced on Friday.

However, two prime accused in this case, Kadir Khan and Md. Ali, are still absconding.
