Padma Shri Prafulla Kar passes away, PM Modi condoles

New Delhi/UNI: Acclaimed musician from Odisha, Prafulla Kar, who was also a Padma award recipient, passed away on Sunday.

He was 83.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his condolences over the demise.

Modi said Kar will be remembered for his pioneering contribution to Odia culture and music.

"Anguished by the passing away of Shri Prafulla Kar Ji. He will be remembered for his pioneering contribution to Odia culture and music.

"He was blessed with a multifaceted personality and his creativity was reflected in his works. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Kar was ailing for sometime and reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening.

His last rites will be performed in Puri's Swarga Dwara on Monday, his family sources told the media.
