Operation Trashi: Encounter breaks out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar, terrorists trapped

Srinagar/IBNS: An encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, as media reports said.

Three terrorists are believed to be trapped.

The encounter, which is code-named Operation Trashi, is underway.

The Indian Army posted on X, "Op Trashi Contact has been established with #terrorists during a joint #operation with @JmuKmrPolice at #Chhatru, #Kishtwar today morning. Additional troops have been inducted, and operations are ongoing to neutralize the terrorists."

Six terrorists were killed in multiple encounters by the security forces earlier this month.

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, including local commander Shahid Kuttay, were killed in Shopian’s Keller area on May 13.

Two days later, three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists- Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmed Bhat- were killed in Tral’s Nader area.

The encounters took place days after the Indian Armed Forces conducted Operation Sindoor to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists.

Operation Sindoor was a fierce military operation launched on May 7, in response to the attack that took place at Baisaran Valley, which is referred to as India's Switzerland, in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

After the Pakistan Army again targeted Indian civilians and resorted to cross-border firing, the Indian Armed Forces retaliated, destroying defence systems of the hostile neighbour.

On Pakistan's appeal, India responded with a ceasefire on May 10 but Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned of fresh retaliation if Islamabad goes astray.
