One arrested for raping woman at gunpoint

Thane, June 2 (IBNS) The police said they arrested one of the two accused on Monday after a 29-year-old woman allegedl that she was raped at gunpoint inside a car in Thane near Mumbai.

The other accused is still absconding, said the police.

The police have charged the two men under sections 376, 377, 506 (2) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and under sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.

The woman, who has recently completed an event management course, was allegedly raped at gunpoint inside a car in Thane on Saturday, according to her complaint, media reports said.

The incident occurred near Bhayandar Railway Station where the two accused had asked the woman to come for a job.

When she arrived there, she was asked to board a car inside which she was raped at gunpoint.

She said one of the men allegedly raped her while his friend kept threatening her with a gun during the crime.

Once considered a safe place for women, Mumbai in recent years witnessed several crimes against women. A woman photo journalist was gang-raped by some men in the heart of the city in an abandoned paper mill last year.

A Mumbai sessions court in April had sentenced the men to death under section 376E under the Indian Penal Code that carries the maximum of death penalty for such crimes.
