NSA Ajit Doval visits violence-hit regions of Delhi

New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Wednesday visited the violence-hit areas of Delhi to take stock of the situation.

"I came to these areas and met people. Some criminals are trying to create trouble. Police are alert in the areas and doing their duties," he told reporters.

"We want peace to prevail here," he said.

This was NSA's second visit to the region in the past 24 hours.

During his round to the areas including Jaffrabad, Doval interacted with local residents and asked people to maintain harmony.

The Cabinet Committee on Security, the final decision-making body on matters related to country's security - will meet today to discuss the violence in the capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have released some helpline numbers, for those who want the details of any victim. Police have circulated the contact numbers of the officers including SI Gajendra Singh 9818120026 for GTB Hospital, ASI Yogendra Singh 7982756328 for LNJP hospital and Maulana Azad Hospital, S. Devendra Singh 9818313342 for RML hospital and ASI Narendra Rana 9868738042 for Al Hind Hospital Number.

The death toll in the Delhi violence, which occurred in the last two days, on Wednesday climbed to 21 while 189 others were injured, media reports said.

Among 21 deceased, 19 were civilians, one police officer and one Intelligence Bureau official.

The CBSE on Wednesday announced the postponement of Class XII Board exam paper for February 27, Thursday, in schools of violence-hit northeast Delhi.

The Central Board of Secondary Education on the request of Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi and to avoid inconvenience to students, staffs and parents, has decided to postpone Class 12 exams scheduled for February 27 in north east part of Delhi, stated the CBSE circular issued by Secretary Anurag Tripathi.

The names of schools where board examinations have been cancelled is available on the CBSE website, it said.

"The Board will notify the new dates to the affected students later," it stated.

In rest Delhi, the examination will be conducted as scheduled.

Class XII English Elective, English Elective C and English Core is scheduled for tomorrow.

The development comes against the backdrop of violent clashes in northeast Delhi between pro and anti-CAA protestors which has claimed at least 20 lives including that of a Head Constable while injuries to more than 150 people.
