No job in Assam without knowledge of Assamese or other indigenous language: Assam Sahitya Sabha
Guwahati, May 18 (IBNS): An influential and century old organisation of Assam, Assam Sahitya Sabha has issued a diktat that, no job in Assam without knowledge of Assamese or other indigenous language of the state.
The organisation issued the diktat that, people who don’t know Assamese or other indigenous language of the state would not be allowed to work in the state.
The Assam Sahitya Sabha, established in 1917 said in their statement that, they will not allow anyone to work in the state who doesn’t know Assamese or other indigenous language of the state.
The influential organisation of Assam has also set a month’s deadline to the BJP-led government to introduce any recognised indigenous tongue as the third language up to Class 12 in all Kendriya Vidyalayas and schools affiliated to the CBSE.
Assam Sahitya Sabha said in the letter addressing to the Chairperson of CBSE that, Assamese is not a merely a mother language but also a culture and civilization of Assam which was earlier known as ‘Kamrupee’ language. At present, in the process of globalization, this heritage language is now in deep crisis.
“Government of India is also emphasising the need to preserve different regional languages of our country so that these small group of population can have the opportunity of speaking their own mother tongue. Different education commission have also emphasised that the teaching in schools and colleges should preferably be taught in own mother tongue, especially upto 12th standard. Assam Sahitya Sabha strongly upon your Board to direct the schools located in Assam and recognised/affiliated by your Board to implement Assamese and other languages of the communities in your schools at aleast upto 10th and 12th standard,” Assam Sahitya Sabha said in the letter.
Assam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi said that, Assam Sahitya Sabha will not allow anyone to work in Assam who doesn’t know Assamese or other indigenous language.
“Assamese language was the communicative language in Assam. Assamese language is not only a mother tongue, it is also a communicative language of the North East. The Assamese language is facing crisis during the process of globalization and so that we Assam Sahitya Sabha and other organisations of North East, especially Bodo Sahitya Sabha and eight tribal organisations have decided to preserve the Assamese language and the language must be introduced in all educational institutions. It is our demand. Mother language is our birthright and so that for it, we decided that, we will not allow anyone to work in Assam who doesn’t know our mother language. It is our demand. We are ready to teach Assamese language to anyone who want to teach it,” Dr Rajbongshi said.
