No flights to operate between Kolkata and six Indian cities between July 6-19

Kolkata/IBNS: As West Bengal government stepped up efforts to contain COVID-19 outbreak in the state, flights from six Indian cities will not land in capital Kolkata city from July 6.

The limitations on flight movement will remain imposed till July 19.

The six cities from where flight operations will stop to Kolkata during this period are  Delhi,Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur,Chennai and Ahmedabad.

The Kolkata Airport tweeted: "It is informed that no flights shall operate to Kolkata from Delhi,Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur,Chennai & Ahmedabad from 6th to 19th July 2020 or till further order whichever is earlier. Inconvenience caused is regretted. @AAI_Official MoCA_GoI @ushapadhee1996 @HardeepSPuri
@arvsingh01."

India, the country of 1.3 billion people, on Saturday registered the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with new 22,771 infections besides reporting 442 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With over 22,000 cases, India's Covid tally now stands at 6,48,315 including 3,94,227 cured or discharged and 18,655 deaths.

The western state of Maharashtra, which still remains the worst-hit part of the country, has so far reported 1,92,990 cases including 1,04,687 cured or discharged and 8,376 deaths.

In terms of Covid figures, Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu (1,02,721) and the national capital of Delhi (94,695).

India has entered into Unlock on Jul 1 with several relaxations in various socio-economic aspects of lives.
