Nagpur/UNI:  A 19-year-old national-level boxer ended his life by hanging himself in his hostel room in Maharashtra's Akola district on Friday, police said.

The deceased identified as Pranav Raut, resident of Nagpur, had represented Maharashtra at a national boxing championship held in Delhi earlier this year.

Raut was undergoing training at a sports academy in Akola.

"Though on Thursday he was in Akola, he did not turn up for training due to health problem," said sources.

On Friday, he was supposed to participate in a tournament in Akola but he commited suicide in the morning by hanging himself in his hostel room, said sources.

The exact reason for taking this drastic step, could not known immediately.

No suicide note was found at the spot, police said adding that further probe was on.
