New Delhi, Jun 3 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday granted three months time to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete the probe in Muzaffarpur shelter home case.

The case pertains to sexual abuse and rape of scores of girls in a shelter home in Muzzaffarpur of Bihar run by an NGO. The crime was unearthed in a report of educational institute Tata Institute of Social Sciences in May 2018.

A vacation bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Indu Malhotra and also comprising Justice M R Shah, directed the CBI to expand its probe against outside people involved in the sexual abuse of girls.

The CBI on Monday, during the course of the hearing, sought a direction from the Apex Court for six months more time to complete the probe.

The Top Court had earlier directed the CBI to complete its probe in the case and the alleged murder of 11 girls of shelter home by June 3 and file a status report.

The CBI in its recent affidavit has submitted that 11 girls, who belonged to shelter home, were murdered.

The probe agency submitted to the Apex Court that it has excavated two dead bodies during its probe and waiting for forensic report.

The case was transferred to CBI by the Top Court in November last year. The probe agency has charge-sheeted 21 people, including key accused Brajesh Thakur.

In February this year, the Apex Court transferred the case from Bihar to Delhi.

The Top Court was hearing the petition filed by Nivedita Jha and others, including NGOs, seeking a direction to complete the investigation.
