Omar-Nidhi Fatwa
Muslim cleric issues 'fatwa' against Omar Abdullah-Nidhi Razdan marriage
A senior Muslim cleric has issued a fatwa (Islamic decree) declaring the marriage between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan ‘invalid’ under Islamic law.
All India Muslim Jamat national president Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi termed the marriage ‘najayaz’ (invalid).
Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said, "Islam has laid down certain conditions for marriage and those conditions must be met for the marriage to be called a valid marriage."
He said Islamic law permits a Muslim man to marry a woman belonging to certain other religious communities, subject to specific conditions.
"In this case, Abdullah is a Muslim but Nidhi Razdan is a non-Muslim," the cleric said.
He further claimed that Razdan should have converted to Islam before marrying the Chief Minister.
According to reports, the marriage was registered on October 30, while a function had earlier been held at Hari Niwas, near Srinagar's Dal Lake.
Omar Abdullah and Razdan had shared several photographs from their wedding on their respective X accounts.

Earlier, Razvi Barelvi had also issued a fatwa against actress Sara Ali Khan over her visits to the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand.
"Visiting the Kedarnath temple, offering prayers, and seeking blessings of one's own free will is impermissible and haram under Islamic teachings. If she performed these rituals, she has committed a sin and must seek forgiveness and repent before Allah," he told Deccan Herald.
Sara Ali Khan is the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. She has visited the Kedarnath shrine several times in the past.
