MP CM Kamal Nath writes to Amit Shah to ensure 'safe return' of Congress law makers from Bengaluru
Bhopal/ UNI: Even as political developments continue at breakneck speed in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Saturday urged Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah to use his good offices for ensuring the safe return of Congress lawmakers held “captive” in the Karnataka capital.
In a letter to Mr Shah, the Kamal Nath touched on the sequence of events since March 3.
He mentioned that the ‘resignations’ of the representatives in question were handed over to the Assembly Speaker by opposition Bharatiya Janata Party legislators and now the saffron camp is demanding a floor test! Mr Nath assured that the MLAs would be provided foolproof security on their arrival.
The Chief Minister appealed for Mr Shah’s intervention so that the lawmakers are able to discharge duties and fulfil responsibilities without fear or favour during the Budget Session scheduled to commence on Monday.
Alleging that the objective behind the events was to destabilise the dispensation, Mr Nath narrated that on March 3, three Congress representatives, Bahujan Samaj Party legislator Rambai Govind Singh and an independent extending support to the government were whisked away to a hotel in Gurugram.
In the nick of time, the regime rushed two ministers to the place and “liberated” Mrs Singh and her relatives from BJP leaders’ clutches. However, the other four were transported to Bengaluru by a chartered plane. The passenger manifest named BJP MLA Arvind Singh Bhadoria and office-bearer A Tiwari who accompanied them.
On March 9, 19 more Congress lawmakers were “taken” in chartered aircraft to the Karnataka capital. Again, the passenger list included the names of erstwhile state minister Umashankar Gupta, former lawmakers Sudarshan Gupta and Hemant.
Eventually, the number of representatives shifted to Bengaluru rose to 22. Some of Madhya Pradesh’s BJP politicians are also “seen” in pictures from that city.
The legislators are not permitted “access” to any communication device. One of them could not even meet his sire who was arrested and “manhandled” – along with two ministers – by Karnataka Police. The videos “reveal” that the MLAs are under pressure.
The Speaker summoned six of the lawmakers to ascertain the factual position vis-a-vis their resignations but the representatives did not appear. The Chief Minister said that his communication to the Governor – urging central intercession – is yet to be translated into action.
A floor test “has no meaning” as long as the legislators do not return, Mr Nath wrote in the letter.
