Modi to inaugurate development projects in Dantewada today
Reports said Modi will be the first Prime Minister after Rajiv Gandhi to visit the region to inaugurate development projects- a steel plant in Dantewada's Dilmili and the second phase of a 140 km railway line from Raoghat to Jagdalpur.
Other prime ministers since Gandhi have visited the Bastar region that includes Dantewada district, but for election campaigns.
Protesting Modi's visit, the Maoists on Friday felled a tree to block a road, put up posters registering their protest, and hung effigies of Modi and Chief Minister Raman Singh.
According to official reports, more than 15,000 security officials have been deployed for Modi's visit. The road which Modi will take is being sanitized.
Dantewada has been a witness to a series of Maoist attacks over the past one decade, the worst being the 2010 offensive in which 76 CRPF jawans were killed.
