Kangana Ranaut's 'Generation Gutter' jibe draws CJP fire: 'Even BJP doesn't take her seriously'

The fresh war of words comes days after Ranaut criticised the language and conduct of students who participated in the CJP-led protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar and elsewhere across the country.

Kangana's remarks spark backlash

In an Instagram post on Monday, the Mandi MP described the protesters' language as "puke-inducing" and "crass" and questioned their upbringing.

"You call yourself cockroaches and look/behave like them as well... I am scarred from these reels. I need some healing, digital detox," she wrote.

Targeting women among the protesters, Ranaut went on to label them "Generation Gutter", accusing them of glorifying drugs and alcohol, living off their parents, and contributing little to society.

The comments triggered criticism from opposition leaders and student groups, with some questioning whether the BJP MP even knew the full form of NEET — the medical entrance examination whose alleged paper leak sparked the nationwide protests.

'Why should we take her seriously?'

Responding to Ranaut's comments on Tuesday, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das dismissed the actor-politician's criticism, saying she lacked credibility even within her own party.

"Even people within Kangana Ranaut's own party don't pay much attention to her or take her seriously, so why should we? I don't think anyone in Gen Z, Gen Alpha or any younger generation takes her seriously or listens to what she says," he said.

Das also referred to Ranaut's earlier remarks about her experience as a first-time MP, where she had admitted she initially believed the role involved little work.

"She herself said she thought being an MP required very little work, but later realised how much effort it actually takes. That shows her level of seriousness. She calls us an 'unserious generation', yet she exposed her own lack of seriousness," he said.

'Politicians must maintain dignity'

Calling Ranaut's language inappropriate, Das said elected representatives should uphold the dignity of public office.

"Gen Z has done far more for this country than you have, and they continue to do so. Gen Z has worked to restore faith in the nation's democracy — something you haven't done. Politicians should maintain the dignity of their position," he added.

Protests end after minister's exit

The CJP launched sustained protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on June 20, with one of its principal demands being the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy.

A Parliament march on July 20 turned violent, with police using lathicharge, tear gas and pellet guns to disperse protesters.

Authorities said more than 118 police personnel were injured during the clashes, with several allegedly attacked by protesters.

Following two rounds of talks between the Centre and the CJP, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday.

The CJP subsequently called off its agitation after the government assured that no action would be taken against peaceful protesters and announced compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the NEET paper leak.
