Modi, Pedro Sanchez discuss ways to expand ties in defence, security, technology
PM Narendra Modi held talks with President Pedro Sánchez in New Delhi on Wednesday, discussing ways to further strengthen India–Spain ties across key sectors, including defence, security, technology and innovation.
The two leaders also highlighted their joint decision to mark 2026 as the India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI, an initiative aimed at deepening people-to-people connections and fostering collaboration in emerging technologies and cultural exchange.

Following the meeting, Modi said on X that he had a “productive discussion” with Sánchez, emphasising efforts to expand cooperation in defence, security and technology.
He welcomed the presence of a large delegation of universities from Spain, noting that enhanced academic collaboration would play a vital role in strengthening bilateral ties and connecting the people of both countries.
Modi further underlined that the landmark Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union would significantly boost economic engagement with Spain, creating new opportunities for businesses and citizens in both nations.
