New Delhi, Aug 9 (IBNS) Prime MInister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the first council meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party after the Lok Sabha polls where he justified the country's tough stand at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations.

He said his government took care of the poor as far as the WTO issue is concerned.

“Those who asked for votes in name of food security deviated from their agenda. We chose to serve the poor. And the WTO agreement deviates from this purpose. I am ready to accept the challenge; but will not bow to pressured," Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that after completing 60 days of his  government at the Centre he is confident that it has started moving in the right direction and good results are expected in time to come to fulfil hope and aspiration of the people of the country.

Other senior party leaders like  L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Satish Upadhyay were also present at the meet.

The BJP national council meeting, first such gathering since the party stormed to power in 2014 Lok Sabha election, was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The session started with Shah’s ratification as the new party president.
