Militants strike in J&K, 1 killed

Srinagar, Aug 13 (IBNS) Suspected militants attacked a police vehicle near Galandar Pampore in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday night which left one person killed and two others injured.

The police said a Tata Sumo driver was hit by bullet which resulted in his death.

Police sources told IBNS that unidentified gunmen resorted to indiscriminate firing on a police vehicle near Galandar Pampore.

According to sources, the DySP from 11th Battalion IRP Abdul Hamid escaped unhurt while two cops including Head Constable Muhammad Yaqoob and Mehraj-u-Din sustained injuries.

They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

They are currently in a stable condition, reports said.

The police said that a civilian, who was identified as Manzoor Ahmed Qasab, was hit by bullet when he was driving a Sumo. He died at the spot.

According to sources, the militants managed to flee from the spot after the strike while Army personnel from 50 RR, SOG, CRPF and police personnel cordoned off the area.

Massive search operation is currently going on in the area.
