Meeting suggests extension of lockdown in Mizoram's Aizwal city

Aizawl/IBNS: A meeting held at SAD Conference Hall at MINECO attended by Mizoram Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana and Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state and also the efficacy of the current lockdown in Aizawl city given the recent rise in the number of positive cases.

The meeting opined that a further extension of the lockdown would help in containment of cases and would be in the best interest of public health and safety and suggested its extension.

A final decision on the matter will be taken after the Chief Minister approves the suggestion.

Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) officials present in the meeting reported that during October 25 – 31, 9781 samples were tested, out of which 309 cases were positive; 121 cases (39.15%) were symptomatic cases while 188 (60.84 %) were asymptomatic cases.

Out of the total 2757 positive cases (as on 2/11/2020), 2128 (77.20 %) are males and 629 (22.81 %) are females; 1654 cases have travel history, while 1103 cases are positive contact cases; civilians account for 94.45 % of the positive cases, 3 percent are army and paramilitary personnel while the rest 2.54 percent are frontline workers.

In connection with contact tracing more than 25,596 persons have been contacted by the contact tracing team.

The meeting was also attended by officials of concerned Departments, members of Medical Operational Team and representatives of Joint NGO Coordination Committee, church elders of Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC) and doctors from IMA (Mizoram Chapter).
