Maratha reservation: SC asks parties to file written submissions
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme court on Tuesday asked all the parties, involved in the Maharashtra reservation matter to file their respective detailed written submissions and arguments, and time they need to argue the case.
A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao, who was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Maharashtra state law granting reservation to Marathi people in higher education and government jobs, stated it will conduct day-to-day hearing in the case.
The dates will be given next month by the court, the Bench said during the course of the hearing.
Justice Rao said that there should not be any repetition of submissions.
Senior advocate, Shyam Divan urged the Apex Court to consider physical hearing for the case with due precautions, as in virtual hearing it is very difficult to convince the SC.
Along with petitioners, the Maharashtra state, too, said that the matter could not be adjudicated through virtual hearing and demanded a physical hearing.
The Court said it will hear this aspect on Monday as well as the plea for interim relief on implementation of Maratha quota this year.
The petitioners had moved the Apex court challenging the Maharashtra law with respect to Maratha reservation in education and jobs on the ground that it exceeds 50 per cent cap set by the SC judgment.
