Man lynched to death on suspicion of raping tribal girls in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district
Guwahati, Jul 5 (IBNS): A 45-year-old man has allegedly been lynched to death by a mob on suspicion of molesting two girls in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district.
The incident took place at Sitoi Adong village under Donkamokam Police Out Post in the hill district on Thursday night at around 10-45 pm.
According to the reports, the victim identified as Hussain Ali hailed from Raikatar Chandanpur area in Assam’s Hojai district, who was frequent visitor to the village and had allegedly raped two tribal girls.
The deceased person had been providing herbal medicines to the villagers by taking advantage of superstitions of the villagers.
Locals alleged that, the man called the women to a closed room for treatment and raped two village girls.
On Thursday night, some villagers caught the man and beat him.
The village chief immediately informed the police and a police team rushed to the area and rescued the man and took the man to the hospital.
The injured man succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
The mob also damaged the motorcycle used by the man.
West Karbi Anglong district Superintendent of Police (SP) Mrinal Talukdar said that, police will take action against the people who took the law in their hands.
“We had visited the area. The village chief of Sitoi Adong village had informed us about the incident at around 10-45 pm. A police team rushed to the area and rescued an injured person and took him to the hospital. But, he succumbed to his injuries at hospital. When the police team again visited the village, we were informed that, the man molested local girls by taking advantage of superstitions of the villagers. But the local villagers broke the law and police will take action in course of law,” the police chief of West Karbi Anglong district said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case against unknown persons.
