Maharashtra's COVID-19 cases cross 40,000-mark, Mumbai records more than 25,000

Mumbai/IBNS: The Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra crossed the 40,000-mark on Thursday with the state registering as many as 2,345 new infections in the last 24 hours. It's capital city Mumbai breached the 25,000-mark.

Maharashtra witnessed 64 fatalities in the single day including 41 from Mumbai itself. The state's total number of positive cases stood at 41,642.

The total number of deaths in the state rose to 1,454, health officials said. Mumbai alone reported 882 deaths related to the COVID-19 virus.

This was the fifth consecutive day when the state reported more than 2,000 new cases of the highly contagious virus.

A total of 1,408 patients were discharged from hospitals. The state's total tally of recovered patients reached 11,726, the official said.

Pune city, another coronavirus hotspot in the state, has reported 4,207 cases and 222 deaths so far, he said.

Meanwhile, India's coronavirus cases crossed 1.14 lakh with a record single-day hike of 5,609 infections on Wednesday. The death toll crossed 3,500.
