Maharashtra: Three cases of farmer suicide reported in drought-hit Marathwada

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 12 (UNI) Three farmers, including a youth, reportedly committed suicide recently in three districts of drought-hit Marathwada region.

The deceased have been identified as Pandurang Raut (60), Devrao Rathod (35) and Murlidhar Sonkawale (22) hailing from Beed, Nanded and Parbhani districts respectively.

In the first incident reported from Beed, elderly Pandurang Raut from Sirasdevi village in Gevrai taluka, allegedly hanged himself on Sunday at his residence owing to rising debts.

In second incident reported on July 28 from Nanded, Devrao Rathod from Daregaon Tanda in Himayat Nagar, allegedly consumed poison owing to crop failure coupled with rising debts.

Devrao died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
In third incident reported from Parbhani, Murlidhar Sonkawale from Dudhate village in Purna Taluka hanging himself on Sunday owing to crop failure.

The suicides have been registered at respective police stations, the reports added.
