Maharashtra political crisis: 34 MLAs write to Guv declaring support for Eknath Shinde

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's troubles escalated as 34 MLAs wrote to state's Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, affirming support for Shiv Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde.

The MLAs, who reached Guwahati with Shinde yesterday, wrote to the governor stating that he would remain the legislative party leader, a day after Uddhav Thackeray sacked him.

The letter asserted that Bharat Gogavale has been the chief whip of the party and not Sunil Prabhu and that they were "still with Shiv Sena".

The rebel MLAs said that Gogavale's appointment cancels Thackeray's nominee Sunil Prabhu as chief whip.

This move by the rebels indicates that they are all set to challenge whether the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray is the real one, especially as Eknath Shinde stated that the rebel MLAs were "keen on continuing the Sena founded by late Balasaheb Thackeray".

The MLAs wrote the same letter to the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra assembly and listed the reasons for their rebellion.
