Maharashtra government extends COVID-19 lockdown in containment zones till May 31

Mumbai/UNI/IBNS: Amid increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Maharashtra government has extended fourth phase of the lockdown in containment zones till May 31.

With a wide COVID-19 footprint, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Malegaon, Aurangabad and Solapur are tagged as containment zones, hence the curbs will continue in these places till May end.

The government affirmed that relaxations will be allowed with guidelines in areas that are demarcated as Green and Orange zones.

India has crossed the 90,000-mark in terms of the total number of coronavirus cases across the country with the biggest single-day jump of 4,987 new infections on Saturday.

The total number of cases stands at 90,927 so far, including 2,872 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

Of the total deaths reported, 120 were registered in the last 24 hours.

 More than 34,000 patients have been cured so far with the recovery rate standing at 37.51 per cent as of Sunday morning.
