Maharashtra: 181 cases of assault on police during lockdown

The collated data further tracks down incidences of lockdown violations, amount of fines collected, number of vehicles seized and count of policemen who either contracted the COVID-19 or succumbed to it in the past 45 days.

According to the Police Department, a total of 93,731 cases were registered under the IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

It further said that around 18,466 persons were held for defying lockdown while Rs 3.39 crores were earned through the means of monetary penalty.

The police booked cases against 1,270 vehicles on the charge of illegal transportation whereas 52,555 vehicles were seized.

With 15,086 offenses, Pune topped in lockdown violation cases followed by Mumbai-10,554, Ahmednagar-9,046, Pimpri-Chinchwad-7,519 and Pune rural-5,693.

The lowest number of crimes were recorded in Wardha-157, Nandurbar-110, Gadchiroli-90, Ratnagiri-75 and Akola-72.

Also, 633 individuals, marked with quarantine stamps, were traced and sent into segregation cells as they overlooked the isolation period.

It apprised that from all over Maharashtra, a staggering 84,022 calls rang on police emergency contact number 100, all of which, were duly noted.

Fifteen visa violations were reported across the State, it added.

Four policemen have succumbed to the contagion while performing their duties while 40 police officers and other 378 personnel are undergoing treatment after being infected, data apprised.
