Prayagraj, Jun 3 (UNI) Mafia don Atiq Ahmed was at last shifted to Ahmedabad on the direction of the Supreme Court on Monday.

The don, who was jailed here at the Naini Central jail, was taken to Varanasi under heavy security cover and later he was taken to Ahmedabad by a regular flight.

Police sources here on Monday said several senior police officials accompanied the don to Ahmedabad from where he will be taken to Sabarmati jail.

On April 23 last, the supreme court had ordered shifting of Atiq Ahmed from UP to Gujarat but it took a long time as at first Gujarat government was not so keen to accept a mafia don in its jail.

Recently, Atiq ,who was lodged in Deoria jail was allegedly involved in kidnapping a businessman from Lucknow and thrashed him inside the jail. Later, he was shifted to Bareilly jail, but was taken to Naini jail before the Lok Sabha polls.

The former MP , Atiq, had filed his nominations from Varanasi lok Sabha seat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi but withdrew his name just before the polling.
