LS polls: 45 nominations rejected for second phase in UP

Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI): As many as 45 nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny for the second phase of polling in eight Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

During the scrutiny of papers on Wednesday, 45 nominations were rejected of the total 136 candidates who filed their nominations.

Now 91 candidates are in the fray and the last date of withdrawal is March 29.

As many as 18 papers were rejected in Fatehpur Sikri seat followed by 14 in Aligarh, 13 in Mathura, 11 each in Agra and Amroha, nine in Nagina and eight in Hatras.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has approved appointment of senior IAS Jayant Nalikar as the new divisional commissioner of Gorakhpur in place of Amit Gupta, who will go for foreign training.

Basti Additional Commissioner Atul Singh will take the place of Pilibhit ADM Braj Kishore.
